To assist you in planning an eventful year, we have provided a month-by-month schedule of the most popular events, along with advice on when and where to obtain tickets. For those events requiring advance planning or ticket purchase we have added reminders at the time of year when you must send away for tickets.
Please Note: The information we have provided was accurate when we posted it, however we suggest that you always verify the details before making your plans, as viewing a boat race, for instance, whose boats will not appear until the following weekend can be a very dull event indeed. Here are a few other helpful hints:
1. Dress codes are often quite stringent. Ask your host or hostess or someone who has attended the event for advice.
2. When booking an event by mail, always include a self-addressed stamped envelope and enquire if it is possible or necessary to book the car park.
3. For more popular events, such as Wimbledon, tickets must be obtained through a lottery or ballot. Entry forms, referred to as ballots, must be submitted by a certain deadline.
4. Individual castles, stately homes and numerous other venues offer their own calendar of events. Telephone, write them, or check their website to request one.
